HIV in France

In France, about 180 000 people live with HIV, and almost 25 000 don't know it. Each year, approximately 5 000 people discover they have HIV.
The lastest data from Santé Publique France (Public Health France) indicates that testing has gone up in 2023, especially because of the HIV-test policy, which allows for free testing, without a prescription. These policies have made it easier to be tested early, but 40% of the discoveries of HIV are late diagnoses.
Main ways of contamination:
- 55% of new infections are linked to heterosexual relations,
- 40% are linked to sexual relations between men.
